With the renewal of The Young and the Restless for four more years, CBS has given the long-running soap opera a significant boost. Y&R will air until the 2027–2028 TV season thanks to the XL deal.
The Bold and the Beautiful, the network’s second daytime soap, was not mentioned in the announcement. TVLine also reported that from a CBS insider that B&B has an extra option year included in the current renewal agreement, which expires in May along with Y&R. The source goes on to say that the option will be exercised, securing B&B’s continued existence until the 2024–2025 television season.

President of CBS Entertainment AmyReichenbachh stated in a statement, “The Young and the Restless has been a staple of daytime television for over 50 years, and it is with great pleasure that we will continue that legacy at CBS.”

Even with dwindling competition, Y&R has maintained its position as the daytime’s top drama series for 36 years, with an average viewership of 3.50 million viewers this season, according to CBS.

There are just two soap operas that air on broadcast television: B&B and General Hospital on ABC. (Days of Our Lives is now available only on Peacock, NBC’s streaming subsidiary.)
