I never expected to not be celebrating a tradition that I have for 25 years. St. Patrick's Day is more than just a drinking sprint - well for most of us. The day is to celebrate our patron saint that saved Ireland from snakes. Right now the whole world is in need of saving from an invisible virus. I love celebrating St. Patrick's day & for a lot of them I have worked in the service industry. I'm proud of where I'm from. What I never expected to not be proud of though is people using it as an excuse to drink & party in the midst of a pandemic. Next time anybody wants to 'slainte' to a 250 year old tradition in a crowded pub when there are immunocompromised, elderly people fighting for their lives, when those serving you drinks are risking their own health think about the 250 lives you could have saved by staying home. Celebrate St. Paddy's in 4,5 months from now - I promise the craic will be 90 then! Stay safe!
