During a hearing related to divorce proceedings between Kevin Costner and his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner on September 1, the actor revealed he might sue Paramount Network to recoup financial losses after scheduling conflicts and backstage scuffles between himself, Paramount Network, and “Yellowstone” producers –including Sheridan — resulted in him walking away from the show before the filming of Season 5’s back half resumed. Costner claimed Paramount hasn’t coughed up the $12 million he says he’s owed. He also stated that the studio abandoned negotiations with him.
“It’s a little disappointing that [it’s the] number one show on television [and] I’m not participating,” he said on the stand, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ll probably go to court over it.”
Sheridan has stated that he did what he could do to accommodate the increasing amount of off-time Costner requested, as well as other demands, including script approval. Costner put his time off toward directing the multi-part epic theatrical film, “Horizon: An American Saga.” Since Sheridan is one of the show’s executive producers, if Costner sues the production company behind “Yellowstone,” he will be involved in whatever legal action occurs. But the parties involved may come to a proper accord and send John Dutton off into the sunset in a way that fits the character.
